First Trail Ride at John's New Barn

Taking advantage of a warm day that was unexpectedly free of rain, I took John out on the trail system behind his new boarding barn. This was quite the adventure - I had no idea what to expect. The barn owners had said these trails are 'nice' and that was all I knew.

They were not exaggerating. These trails are as wide as a vehicle, some great hills for hillwork, firm sandy surface, and they even have signage:

Signs are great for people like me who suffer from GetLost-o-Phobia.

John was great about all the unusual things we saw: deer stands, heaps of logs, some big fat noisy birds (young turkeys? Old grouse?). He was bothered only by several ponds with a loud Halleluiah Chorus of frogs being broadcast from them. Maybe he has never heard so numerous froggies in one place, in his young life. They were pretty deafening.

We were out for about two hours at a walk and did not take all the trails, just one big outer loop of the system really = lots more to explore and this is terrific.

As soon as we turned toward home, John picked up the pace quite considerably as in "I'm outta here!" and we had to do many circles, stops, and even walk backwards on the trail for long stretches to divert this. Maybe it was too much a baptism of fire for having been at the new place only one week.

However it was a good workout for him and there is no experience in the world like the first time on a new trail with a horse. You don't know what's going to happen, you hope for the best; it's a new world out there.

He was sweet as honey when we got back and had a good roll in the sand, then marched off to join his new buddy who nickered for him from his flat-out sunbathing position in the pasture. I love this place. I kept thinking about NuzzlingMuzzles' comment that this horse facility is like a classy private boarding school. Sitting on my saddle in the tack room was a copy of the boarding contract and a receipt for my board payment. In all the time I've been boarding, I've never seen either before. It's a whole new world.

How exciting for both of you! John gets to learn some biology and you both have new scenery. Let's just hope that you guys don't have to dissect any of those frogs, unless of course you are removing their vocal chords for a little peace and quiet.

NM: LOL yes John's biology lesson was impressive to him for awhile there! If he steps on a frog by accident a quick dissection will occur and probably an unplanned dismount too. I give him a B+ for today.

Here's to many, many more happy trails for you guys!

Glad everything's working out for you - your new place sounds good. It's nice that John will go out for you so nicely after only a little time in a new place - the trails look really beautiful.

Mrs.Mom: Thank you my friend!! Hope your spring trimming is going well.

Kate: John was definitely ready to be 'home' in his new pasture but yes, trails....there is nothing I love better than a nice dry hilly trail. That's my idea of heaven.

It sounds lovely. Does John still get his bed made of food? If not can I have it?
My last home my human had a contract and got a receipt.

In UK fee paying schools are called public schools...confusing or what?

c2b: John has lost the bed made of food. I think it is for the best. I believe your human does not want you to acquire such a bed. If she gives permission however... And yes I have always been confused by the British 'public schools'. To Americans that sounds backwards!

I'm with you on never having had a receipt for boarding payments. It irks me too. Our current barn doesn't have a boarding contract because the owner said "if you don't like something, you'll leave. That's business." Which is actually somewhat nice, but at the same time, it's nice to know what you are supposed to expect as well.

Your trails sound amazing. two hours and not having went on the all the trials. Amazing. :) I'm so happy for you!!! The Jurasic Park sign was a little creepy though. lol

EzraPandora: I am glad this boarding contract addressed emergency vet care when I can't be reached. I've always had to provide permission to treat and take final measures forms which I made up for myself, and then worry that they'd have lost them if a really bad emergency ever happened. Jurassic Park ! There must be a story I need to learn. It was just an area like all the others!

Kacyk: Hi there! thanks for stopping by! This Goat Mountain is a quite steep hill but with excellent footing. I LOVE hills and Johnnie and I constantly work on taking it s-l-o-w on the way down a steep one. The sign posts to me seem like the owners are having fun and taking care which is so good. I'll be visiting your blog more often now that we've connected!

Hi there!
I would like to burn a theme at this forum. There is such a nicey, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of ponzy-like structure, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.

For several years , I earn money with the help of these programs.
I'm with no money problems now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I get now up to 2G a day , and I started with funny 500 bucks.
Right now, I'm very close at catching at last a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Visit my blog to get additional info.
