"Wake Up Little Susie!"

Montana was sound asleep when I went for my lesson a few days ago. He sleeps with his eyes open but glazed or clouded over, and he snores loudly. It is the creepiest thing waking him up.

John came to help:

Then here comes a miracle: 1000 pounds hoisted up into the air on those 4 little legs:

Resulting in eventually this: 'OK, you woke me up and put these boots on me, so let's get this over with."

Is there anything prettier than a booted up horse? What is so darn sexy about it?

lol!! That would be sooo creepy. I think horses are so neat when they are sleeping, but the whole eyes open thing? Yeah, a little weird. Good thing you had help though :)

Yes, John was all but stepping on Montana in his eagerness to assist. Those eyeballs: weird and opaque like grapes, and sloooowly they become reflective and take in the world. But the snoring goes on throughout. Yeeps.

Hello I just found your blog. I think it is wonderful the attention you have brought to the cruelness Tn walkers are put through. Having lived in Tn and my husband being a shoer and myself working for a large animal vet right in the heart of Walking horse country we had to deal with things like that on a dai;y basis. My husband only shod quarter horses and natural walkers but at the vets office we had to deal with all sorts of things related to such cruelty. Though most people in Tn are so proud of there walking horses even the vet that I worked for though he did not condone the practice of the soreing and the pads and weights took us to the celebration every year. Though people think it is cruel in Tn they still suport it It is hard for me to understand. Personally I have never liked the breed I have always been a quarter horse person though, since we have spent most of our lives working on big ranches. Sorry if this doesn't make any since Megan

HappyHef: Hi! I'm glad to make your acquaintance. You are in TWH country and clearly have a lot of experience with the hoofs and the shows. It's a sad business indeed, and yet I have to admit I'd like to see just one class at one of these shows - for real, not just photos.

The open eyes are kind of creepy, but I think when they snore it is adorable. He's such a cute guy. I do like the boots though, he looks very professional and ready to go. I like that his friend Johnnie was there to help.

You know, you're right! I never really thought about it but there is just something so attractive (and yes, a wee bit sexy!) about a booted or polo-wrapped horse ready to go. :P

We horse people...we're a little bit on the weird side.

GreyHorse: Yes I do think the snoring is cute. What's weird is the way it continues throughout the wake-up process, and even after he has stood up. No matter how many times it happens, I always start to think he might have some respiratory issue....and just then it quits!

Jenn: Polos are the sexiest. All the barn girls are great at polo wraps and they make the oldest most resigned lesson horse look spiffy: tie-dye wraps, leopard print wraps, you name it.

Jocelyn: We have a continuing discussion topic in our house: Who is that doing all that snoring? We usually agree it is little Gabey the dog.

IcePonyGirl: Now THAT would be scary!
