TrespassingTrail Ride; I could not resist

I came home from work today rather aggravated by some stuff going on there, and tired because there was a mandatory "Chancellor's Breakfast" at 7:30 a.m. this morning that stressed me out but which the Chancellor did not attend....which was weird.

Anyhoo I sat around for awhile and then decided to get my act together and go ride John as it was a pretty autumnal afternoon/evening.

We went out and I trespassed on the neighbor's trails. He is a richy-rich plastic surgeon. He and his son both ride, and they have a trail system that they use for horses in summer, cross-country skiiing in winter.

The temptation to trespass is huge:

These trails are hilly and are actually mowed (by a slave I mean employee of Dr. GotMoney). They are gorgeous.

There is a vague and undiscussed 'permission' for our barn people to use these trails but also a lot of no trespassing signage and some cables have shown up this year indicating that no, he does not want us over there. I think Dr. Rich does not want visitors on his trails.

But! I went over. It was such a quiet beautiful afternoon -- and I was alone so I thought I woudl not make much of an impact. Still, it was weird.

By going that way I get to the power lines and the galloping field by a different and more solitary route.

My Lordy I wish I owned all that land and had the $$ to maintain these trails. I do know that wandering over onto this guy's land is bad but this was a day I just could not resist going there and we were out for 3 hours having a golden autumn blast.

Here's a photo I took of myself at arm's length while John was visiting the Snacketeria:

Fun times! A good autumn day and some law-breaking, do they go hand in hand??

You better watch out. The trespassing police will track you down, and you made it easy for them by taking your own mug shot!

Rebel...I love it. I couldn't resist either.

Gotta wonder what could have happened to make Dr. GotMoney change his mind. Or maybe he didn't. Maybe your barn still has permission and all the signage is for others.

NM: Oops I did not think of that! Talk about incriminating myself.

Photogchic: yes these are some choice trails...like candy to a toddler.

CdnCowgirl: That is the optimistic interpretation which I tend to prefer...BUT last year one of the girls from our barn was jumping bareback over one of his barriers (telephone pole fences across the back entry) and her horse stopped, and she broke her collarbone. He found out. I think this changed his mood toward our barn. Understandably - she was breaking numerous barn rules. So....status unclear but tending negative.

Can't you just ask him? By letter if need be.
The down side to this is if he refuses you can't plead ignorance if caught.

c2b: Yes, that is the risk no one so far has been willing to take. Add to this the fact that he has a notoriously hot temper. No one wants to poke him with a stick. So we slink hopefully under the radar. I mostly don't go there, but sometimes it is just too tasty.

That's too bad. I'm sure it is more about the "lawsuit" issues rather than he is that protective about his trails. I bet that if you just keep it to yourself, it won't be an issue though.

What a great place to ride, if I got caught I would definitely plead ignorance. And I must say as long as the weather is beautiful I would do it as much riding as I could. I guess that makes me a lawbreaker (in thought). Have a good time, you may never get caught, it's worth taking the chance.
