Christmas Cards: Love 'Em or Leave 'Em?

I found my 10-year old horse Santa hat while looking for John's stall stocking yesterday. So I tried to get a good photo of him wearing it, while not being at all sure I had the hat on right-side forward. He didn't seem to care. He was in what I might call a grinchy mood: he had a full week off again, which I really don't like. But our weather was ghastly so the barn trips were just not advisable, Monday through Friday.

We rode out into the woods and had a lovely time. The temperature had climbed into the teens, and the sun was full out. We startled grouse and herded deer, and John took quite an interest in the deer tracks along the trail:

Lisa was able to come with me and Brandy was in fine fettle too, quite frisky:

I had thought of making John in his cap into a Christmas card but I think I have left it too late. Or maybe I have a head start on next year??

My feeling about Christmas cards or holiday cards is rather so-so. They are a lot of trouble and expense, but they are nice to get; it's neat to see a photo of friends and family we don't otherwise see. But for the past few years I have found it increasingly hard to get up the 'spirit' for card sending.

What about you? Love 'em, or leave 'em go?

At least John's stocking is hung on his stall with care, in the hope that King Peppermint soon will be there.

I'll admit I love cards... Christmas, birthday or just for no reason :)

cdncowgirl: They do have a sweet emotional effect don't they? Maybe I should get my act together and send some out...

I love him in his hat! :)
I haven't gotten cards yet! I do not know what I am going to do. I designed a card I loved on Snapfish only to discover they would cost me $2 each! I could only afford about 10 cards at that rate. I might just do a letter this year. I'd better get workin' on it, though. I love reading letters and getting cards from others, I run to the mailbox every day this time of year hopin' I'll have some! :)

I love getting them, I like picking them in the store (especially the ones with horse motives), but when it comes down to writing them -not my favorite part, I never know what to write and feel like I'm repeating myself every year

I love 'em. I put a Santa hat on my appy last year for our Christmas card and I thought it turned out pretty cute. John looks pretty cute himself!

He's adorable!

I only have my act together enough to mail Christmas cards about every other year. This really should be a card year - I bought cards, and I even bought festive stamps, I just need to write stuff in them.

I like your friend's orange hat. She's not a deer! Do not shoot her! No!

John looks handsome & adorable in his festive hat. Thanks for the reminder about stall stockings. I forgot to put them up last year. As for cards...I do like to send them, but I'm getting weary of it though.

I have to admit I like to get cards. I do like the ones with pictures. This year all most all of the cards I have recieved are a picture card! One of my blog friends Andrea (Swamp Surbubia)got a really good deal on some. I like them because, they are not bills!

I just got a card this evening from someone, using a website called Paperless Post. It was cool because the envelope had my name, and the opening of the card was animated. Maybe I'll do it next year, instead of spending $50 on photo cards. At this point everyone I know has email.

OH dear... I just can't give up on the cards yet, though I must admit, anyone that I send to is more than likely a reader of the blog and they know everything that has happened this year, and I do make the photo cards, which more than likely the photo has been somewhere on the blog... but, as a child my folks received hundreds of cards and I guess it's ingrained as a part of the Christmas celebration.. so with that, I make my last trip to the post with the finished batch.. and hang the ones that have arrived!!!!!

PonyGirl: I look for them in the mail too and even like the ones from the insurance agent etc. how about that?!

Petra: I know what you mean about repetition...but maybe they forget in between years!

RMY: A santa hat on an Appy sounds too divine. Is the photo on your blog anywhere?

Funder: I like the every other year approach. That would generate uncertainty, and therefore nice surprise, in the recipients.

OnceUpon: Thanks! So far John's stocking has only a smattering of arena dust but he is confident it will be filled with mints (rather than sticks and coal) soon.

TrainWreck: Yes, the picture cards are taking over and I think that's so cool; seeing a real photo of someone you care about, or their horse, or their kitties, is a thrill.

HorseyPants; I think this is the fyoo-chor: e-cards. And it makes a lot of sense.

Sue: You have your act together clearly!!! With everything going on on your farm, you still get things done. Very cool.

You could still send e-cards :). Then your picture would be great! A head start on next year is good too. I do like Christmas cards, especially when they have pictures and a letter.

Well I assent to but I think the brief should prepare more info then it has.
