John's tail is getting chewed by a pasture mate. It's his own fault for standing there and letting it happen, but I put a lightweight blanket on him today to...well, to cover his ass, to put it plainly. Plus it is terribly cold and windy these days so perhaps it will be a comfort.
Here is the reaction:
"Are you really doing this to me? Salmon Pink??!" "John, it was on clearance last spring...I apologize (nyuk nyuk!!)"
"Oh well OK; I look good in just about everything."
Notice the reaction from the Peanut Gallery:
"I'll just casually go get a drink of water..."
Here comes the Evil Tail-Chewer now:
"Oh no you DIDN'T!!"
Incredible Earless Horse:
We shall see how long this blanket lasts...I say goodbye to horse clothing whenever it touches John's back. He is the original Shredder.

The good thing is that horses don't care - they only care about being warm and having enough to eat!
Kate: So true! But I really want him to have some tail come spring.
John may have some help shredding this one! Blankets (especially those dangling tail flaps) are nearly as much fun to chew as tails! Good luck!!!
Wow John....Pink is perty.....for a GIRL!
Maybe if you put tobasco sauce on the tail, he wouldn't get it chewed. :)
It takes a brave gelding to wear pink well...
I like it. If you don't like it John just do what I do, roll in the mud a few times to "personalise" it. Don't let the tail chewer eat your tail you will need it soon to keep the flies away.
John took after the Evil Tail Chewer because he knows its ETC's fault that he is now being emasculated with the pink blanket. lol
Wow, he really does look good in every color.

What a funny post. I love the look on the tail chewer's face as he examines John's new winter wear. He's like "hmmmm...now how to get to that delicious tail..."
Love your blog! I just discovered you and will be adding you to my blogroll. You can find me here:

Reading this book and came across the longish quote below. The heroine is fixing to ride Vla bareback. It seemed like a tender passage(?)

"...might have been pure chance that Eliza’s favorite horse in this stable—the mare she asked for by name whenever she called—possessed a flat but not overly broad back, a medium-sized wither, and a sweet disposition. At any rate, the mare’s name was Vla (“cream”), and Eliza rated it as unlikely she would ever try to pitch Eliza off her bare back. The stable-boy was attempting to saddle up a different mare, but Vla was in a stall only a few paces away. Eliza walked over and opened the gate to that stall, greeting Vla by name, and then stepped forward until her nose was caressing the mare’s, and breathed very gently into Vla’s nostrils. This prompted Vla to raise her enormous head slightly, trying to draw closer to that warmth. Eliza cupped the mare’s chin in her hand and exhaled into those nostrils again, and Vla responded with a little shudder of gratitude. Giant overlapping slabs of muscle twitched here and there, coming awake. Eliza now stepped into the stall, trailing a hand along the mare’s side, and then used the stall’s side-planks as a ladder, climbing to a level from which she was able to dive across Vla’s back. Then, by gripping that convenient medium-sized wither with one hand, she was able to spin herself round on her belly and get her legs wrapped around Vla’s body."
Funny! I could almost see the other horses in the corral mocking yours for wearing the pink blanket! :)
It's true that John does look good in anything. He is a trend setter. Soon all the geldings will be wearing pink.
Great post!
I really want him to have some tail come spring.
