Both my horses are enthusiastic lie-down-and-sleepers. Here you see Montana yesterday, looking like a big orange chicken in the haypile in the sun. His eyes were completely glazed over (typical), he was snoring lightly, and he took forever to wake up. Do horses dream??
While I was taking pictures of him look who got in the way:
My other gifted and talented equine sleeper. John will sleep like he has been shot in the field: legs sticking straight out and head and neck at random angle.
Come to think of it, everyone in my immediate world has a flair for sleeping. My sons can go for 12 hours straight, my husband can sleep till noon if not interfered with, and I can happily go to bed at 8:30 p.m. (but can not sleep past dawn, to save my life). And one of us wins the all-time Sleeping Academy Award:
Gabey's conscience is so clear that he can lie down, close his eyes, and be snoring within seconds. Now that is a blameless life.

How cool ! I have yet to catch my mare laying down. But I know she does ALOT because she always has poo stains on her upper neck.. Both sides yuck.
Our Lab snores so loud we wonder if there is a CPAP machine for dogs !
Supposedly it is a good sign if your horse sleeps on both sides - their backs are well-adjusted, or they are flexible both ways, or something. I love hearing dogs snore!! What a peaceful sound. When Montana snores it is freaky because his respiration rate is so slow...

I have come upon my mare snoozing in her stall maybe once or twice. I remember one of the times we had went to the barn early, but after breakfast and maybe 5 out of 13 horses were laying down. I totally freaked out like there was some epidemic. lol I'm better about that now though.
We have a big dog (She's a mastiff akita and is about 150 lbs). She snores like a freight train. Sometimes I'm afraid she'll wake up the boys even when she's 3 rooms away!! But it's funny.

Ezra Pandora: I can hardly imagine the snoring of a 150-pound mastiff! My Gabriel weighs 16 pounds soaking wet and even his snoring can wake me up at times. But then it puts me back to sleep, so soothing...
Is Gabriel a King Charles Spaniel (English Toy Spaniel)? He is gorgeous, and adorable too.
I have a Japanese Chin. He doesn't snore, but my mom's pug certainly does! Drives me crazy how such a little dog can snore so loudly!
FV: Yes! Gabey is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I have never seen a Japanese Chin and am off to look them up.
